Hi there love,
How are you doing? I hope you are doing well. Have you seen my ‘Motivation Wednesday already? During the month of February I’m doing this where every Wednesday I will post a motivational post. However today I will be writing about something else. Today I’m giving you an update on how my Minimalism Journey is going. I love to share my experience with you because on social media you can see Minimalism People living that “Perfect Minimalism Life” and in reality this is not always the case. Keep in mind I’m not judging these people because if they can live this “Perfect Minimalism Lifestyle” props to them. Also, I love using social media to inspire me as well when I’m feeling uninspired myself. Lastly, you can use social media to inspire you to make changes to your own lifestyle as well.
Last time I share part of my Minimalism Journey was last year before I had to undergo a operation. Before this happened I was pretty happy and content with my lifestyle. I was working, keeping my life simple and minimalist while enjoying time with my family & friends. After this operation I concentrated so much on the healing and got carried away with my lifestyle. I started eating way too much, I ate many junk foods, I started shopping and buying everything I though was cute and that I needed it. During the month of December I was just out of balance. I even bought all this junk I didn’t need and my mental health was not well either.
One day I was cleaning my room before New Years and I just didn’t have space for anything because I had filled my whole room with unnecessary stuff. This was my wake up call, I realized what I was doing was not helping. So, I told myself I was going to get it together and I was going to aim for a healthy lifestyle again.
Fast forwarding to right now. I’m in a happy place again, I’m accomplishing goals I never thought possible. First step I had to take was de-cluttering my room. I got rid of 3 to 4 full bags of clothes, accessories, shoes and much more. I donated what I could and threw away what was old, broken or not applicable for donation. This felt like a weight of my shoulder. My environment instantly felt lighter and I was able to concentrate on other things better.
The second step I did was cleaning my whole room. I moved everything, cleaned it well and reorganized my drawers. This time I used to Konmari folding technique. I have to be honest this really helped keeping my clothes organized. I used to fold my clothes with the traditional method and believe me not even a week passed by before my clothes where a mess. I have been using the Konmari for 3 weeks now and it has been working wonders.
The third step I did to revamp my minimalism lifestyle was getting back to saving and spending money as wisely as possible. I took all the products on my wish list I created back in December, I deleted all emails that where linked to shopping and I have set a spending budget for myself. After doing this for about a month I’m happy to say I saved money I will be able to travel with and I created a new wish list. Wishlist’s always helps me when it comes to purchasing products because if this product truly lasts on my list for more than 3 months and after this I still need and want this I could consider buying it. Also, I created habits in order to save money but these I will share in another post.
The fourth step was keeping it clean and organized. When you change things it may seem easy but keeping this will be the hard part. For a about a month I made sure I kept me space as minimal as possible and as organized as possible. I make sure I have time once a week to organize the room and if I buy something new the rule is to take one out. However I can proudly say during the month of January I only bought this I needed.
Right now I’m pretty happy with my lifestyle. I’m more productive, I can sleep better, I feel less annoyed and pressured and I’m getting things done. Before this change I had to do again I was pretty confused whether this lifestyle was really for me but after this I’m pretty sure this is a lifestyle that is for me.
Are you a minimalist? How far are in your journey? Share any tips and experiences with me. I love to learn more and getting to know you better.
*Kind reminder: I use the term Minimalism but I wouldn’t consider myself a true minimalist. I appy aspects of this to my lifestyle, Like I mentioned in this post What does Minimalism mean to me?
